Celebrating 100th anniversary of founding of CPC | "Paukphaw" friendship in sports between China and Myanmar

CIDCA| Updated: 2022-01-27

The "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship between China and Myanmar has been fully demonstrated in sports cooperation and assistance.

China has supported the development of sports in the country at the request of Myanmar by upgrading related infrastructure and improving competitive performance.

In addition to offering assistance in building Myanmar's national stadium and providing sports equipment, China also carried out technical cooperation in sports with the country, by sending Chinese coaches to Myanmar, arranging training sessions for Myanmar sports teams in China, and providing training equipment. The training program started in 2013, and has finished three sessions in 2013, 2015 and 2017. The fourth session kicked off in 2019 but was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Restarted in 2021, the training program in China has been running smoothly thanks to a special anti-pandemic team, who take the Myanmar athletes' temperatures every day, conduct regular training on pandemic prevention, distribute pandemic prevention supplies and check for safety hazards, to make sure that the athletes are fully engaged in training in a safe environment.

Their hard work paid off several months later.

Khin mar se, a long-distance runner, cut her 5K running time from 19'40'' at the beginning to 18'30'', improving her performance by more than one minute.

In the latest test, she set her own personal record of 18'04''05. Khin said excitedly that her achievement came from the joint hard work of Chinese and Myanmar coaches and her own unremitting efforts.

She thanks China for good training conditions and said she will definitely work harder.

San naing, a marathoner, is meticulous in training. He often asks his coach for more guidance and insists on coming to the training field even if he is injured. He recorded a personal best time of 1 hour 51 minutes in a recent run of 30 km.

The training opportunity in China is very precious, he said, adding that they should make full use of it since they have overcome many difficulties coming to China.
