Oscar Gomez, an official from the Nicaraguan Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce, became the first participant from the Latin American country to attend China's Seminar on Governance Capacity for Officials from Developing Countries via video link after the two countries resumed diplomatic relations on Dec 10, 2021.
Gomez, 31, has been eager to visit China since his childhood. While attending a training course in China in November 2019, he travelled to the cities of Beijing, Tangshan and Hangzhou, learned more about the country's economic development and ethnic traditions, and experienced the hospitality of the Chinese people.
Gomez started studying Chinese language, history and culture after he returned home. In addition, he has closely followed news about China and used all available opportunities to communicate with Chinese people in Nicaragua.
Gomez immediately extended an application to Chinese organizers when he received news about the opening of the Seminar on Governance Capacity for Officials from Developing Countries in 2021.
During the seminar, Gomez attended all of his online classes and was eager to share his China experience with other trainees. He said attending the training sessions helped him better understand the country's confidence and determination in the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Gomez highly praised the resumption of diplomatic ties between the two countries. When talking about the handover of 200,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines by China to Nicaragua on the third day after their resumption of diplomatic relations, he said China used concrete action to define their friendship and aid his nation in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
