Celebrating 100th anniversary of CPC | South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund supports post-disaster reconstruction in Bangladesh

Sharifun Nesa is a single mother in Bangladesh. Her husband died six years ago. She is living with six other family members, of which three are female. Sharifun's house was destroyed and the livestock washed away by floods in 2017. Since then, she lost her main source of income and had to live at the embankment for weeks.

Cooperating with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the framework of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund, the Chinese government carried out post-disaster assistance projects in Bangladesh in a timely manner. Emergency shelters were provided to 13,910 households and emergency assistance supplies reached 13,750 people affected by floods. A total of 118,000 women and children received medical assistance and 125 healthcare workers were equipped with emergency medical kits. The assistance projects have covered 45,000 people.

Sharifun, as one of the most vulnerable and affected victims, was listed in the priority target group of assistance. She lived through the floods and started a new life with timely assistance of emergency shelter and necessities, and her story serves as a good example of thousands more vulnerable individuals assisted by the projects.
