CIDCA| Updated: 2022-03-24

As Hurricane Emma hit the Barbuda Island of Antigua and Barbuda on Sept 6, 2017, about 90 percent of the buildings were destroyed, and Otine Beazer's house was one of them. He is a firefighter on the island.

The roof of his house was ripped off when the hurricane wreaked havoc on the island, and all the furniture was ruined.

Thanks to a post-disaster assistance project, Otine renovated and consolidated his house with building materials provided by the Chinese government.

The project, which assisted rebuilding of 302 houses on the island, was the joint efforts of the Chinese government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the framework of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund.

With a newly-rebuilt house erected on the original site, Otine and his family can start afresh again.
