On June 7, 2022, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi had a phone conversation with Secretary-General of Japan's National Security Secretariat Akiba Takeo.

Yang Jiechi said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan relations and bilateral relations have reached an important historical juncture. In October last year, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida reached important understandings on developing a bilateral relationship that answers the call of the new era, providing the guidance and principle for the development of bilateral relations. At present, old and new issues are intertwined in China-Japan relations, and difficulties and challenges cannot be ignored. The two sides need to keep on the right track, adhere to win-win cooperation, bear in mind the long-term and overall interests, enhance security mutual trust, and make joint efforts to bring a stable, sound and resilient China-Japan relationship into the next 50 years and jointly safeguard regional peace and prosperity.

Akiba Takeo said, Japan is willing to deepen cooperation with China, properly handle differences, strengthen communication on bilateral sensitive and international hotspot issues and jointly build constructive and stable Japan-China relations.

Yang Jiechi elaborated on China's principled positions on Taiwan, Hong Kong-related issues, the Diaoyu Islands and others.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
