On June 15, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Raychelle Awuor Omamo at the latter's request.
Wang Yi said, Kenya is a comprehensive strategic cooperative partner of China. Under the joint care and guidance of the two heads of state, China-Kenya relations have entered the best period in history, with political mutual trust continuously being deepened and pragmatic cooperation at the forefront of China-Africa cooperation. China thanks Kenya for its strong support on issues concerning China's core interests, and stands ready to work with Kenya to speed up the implementation of the outcomes of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China hopes that Kenya will ensure the safety of Chinese institutions, projects and personnel in Kenya.
Wang Yi said that today's world is facing various severe challenges and even the danger of division. Some countries pursue unilateralism in the name of multilateralism and hegemony in the name of democracy, thus undermining existing mechanisms and international order. Kenya is a major African country with important influence and has always played a constructive role in the international arena. China is ready to work with Kenya to firmly advocate and act on multilateralism, safeguard the common interests of developing countries, and defend the basic norms governing international relations. China expects Kenya to actively participate in the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
Omamo said, Kenya-China relations, which are strategic in nature, have set an example of mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. China is an important strategic partner of Africa. Kenya and other African countries are ready to work with China to ensure sound implementation of the consensus reached at the Eighth FOCAC Ministerial Conference. Kenya supports the GDI and stands ready to work with China to make greater contributions to promoting world development and prosperity. The Kenyan side sincerely thanks China for its support to Kenya's socio-economic development, and will continue to take robust measures to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions, projects and personnel in Kenya. Kenya also holds that the international community should strengthen solidarity and cooperation, especially to help developing countries overcome the impact of the pandemic as soon as possible and promote economic recovery.
