On July 7, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia, which holds the rotating presidency of this year's G20 Summit on the Bali Island.
Retno said, Indonesia attaches great importance to the significant influence and role of China in the G20 and thanks China for its valuable support to the country in hosting the summit. Indonesia is ready to promote all parties to show solidarity and cooperation, focus on post-pandemic recovery and jointly tackle the current severe and complex challenges.
Wang Yi said, China firmly supports Indonesia in holding this year's presidency and appreciates Indonesia for upholding an objective position, adhering to correct propositions and pursuing the principle of equal sovereignty, maintaining normal exchanges of the international community and safeguarding solidarity within the G20. China is ready to join hands with Indonesia to make the shared voices of developing countries and emerging economies, oppose the Cold War mentality and the bloc confrontation, and promote rational, pragmatic and constructive interaction and dialogue among all parties.
The two sides spoke highly of the positive momentum in the development of China-Indonesia relations and the outcomes of practical cooperation and stressed the need to jointly make preparations for high-level exchanges, so as to inject strong impetus into the development of bilateral relations. The two sides agreed to take the first year of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership as an opportunity to promote the steady and sustained development of China-ASEAN relations. Wang Yi stressed that China firmly supports the ASEAN centrality and firmly safeguards the effective regional cooperation framework with ASEAN at its core. China stands ready to work with ASEAN to build a closer community with a shared future, oppose any resurgence of the Cold War mentality and bloc politics in the region, and jointly safeguard the hard-won regional peace and stability.
The two sides also exchanged views on China-U.S. relations, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and other issues.
