On July 7, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Bali Island.

Wang Yi said, since March this year, China and India have maintained communication and exchanges, effectively managed differences, and bilateral relations have generally shown a recovery momentum. China and India share common interests and similar legitimate demands. Against the backdrop of once-in-a-century changes in the world, major countries like China and India will by no means drift with the tide. Instead, the two countries are destined to maintain strategic focus, achieve respective development and revitalization in accordance with established goals, and make greater contributions to the future of mankind. We should take concrete actions to follow through on the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries that "China and India are partners, and are not threats to each other but opportunities for each other's development". The two countries should push for the early return of bilateral relations to the right track. An Indian poet has said, "Darkness does not go away on its own; a lamp that has gone out must be rekindled." Let's light up the bright future of bilateral relations together.

Wang Yi said, China appreciates India's active collaboration when China hosted BRICS meetings and the High-level Dialogue on Global Development not long ago. We will also support India's role as the rotating chair of the G20 and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) next year. Both China and India stick to the general direction of multilateralism, and share many common propositions without prior consultations, including those on safeguarding peace and security, boosting economic recovery, improving global governance, and jointly combating the pandemic. The two sides should strengthen coordination and cooperation, and make joint efforts to promote greater democracy in international relations and greater fairness in the international order. Efforts should also be made to increase the voices of developing countries and better safeguard their legitimate interests.

Jaishankar said, since the meeting of the two foreign ministers in March, the two sides have made positive progress in aspects such as safeguarding stability along the borders, promoting practical cooperation and facilitating personnel exchanges. The Indian side looks forward to a positive, cooperative and constructive India-China relationship, and stands ready to work with China to release a clear signal to push for the improvement of bilateral ties, and turn the consensus and vision of the two leaders into reality. He thanked China's support for India's role as the rotating chair of the G20 and the SCO next year. India will continue upholding strategic autonomy and an independent position on international affairs.

Both sides agreed to support Indonesia in successfully hosting the G20 meetings this year, and jointly push the meetings to focus on central agendas to boost global post-pandemic recovery.
