Indonesian President Joko Widodo Meets with Wang Yi

On July 11, 2022 local time, Indonesian President Joko Widodo met with visiting State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Jakarta.

Joko asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping, thanked China for its strong support in Indonesia's presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20), and spoke highly of the positive outcomes of the second meeting of the High-level Dialogue Cooperation Mechanism between the two countries. Indonesia hopes to continuously deepen cooperation with China in economy, trade, investment, digital sector, green development and other fields. Joko said, the two sides should strengthen coordination and synergy, and advance the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway and other key projects of the Belt and Road cooperation at a faster pace. More Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest and do business in Indonesia, and the Indonesian side will provide facilitation for them.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to President Joko and congratulated Indonesia on successfully hosting the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which demonstrated Indonesia's important role as a representative of major developing countries and emerging economies and released a positive signal of addressing global challenges in solidarity. China will fully support Indonesia in hosting a successful G20 Summit, so as to jointly play Asia's role in and contribute Asia's strengths to the global recovery.

Wang Yi said, since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, President Xi Jinping and Mr. President have had close communication and interaction, providing strategic guidance for the high-level running of bilateral relations, and also injecting strong impetus into the two countries' efforts to fight the pandemic in solidarity, as well as post-pandemic recovery and development. The two sides have comprehensively followed through on the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, forged a new pattern of "four-wheel drive" cooperation covering political, economic, cultural and maritime aspects, determined the general direction of building a community with a shared future together, and opened up new broad prospects for bilateral relations. The two sides should demonstrate the strong momentum of solidarity, cooperation and sharing weal and woe among major developing countries, further deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, jointly push the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway to be completed and opened to traffic as scheduled, achieve early harvest of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor as soon as possible, and foster new growth drivers of digital economy, green development and blue economy.

During the visit, Wang Yi met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, held the second meeting of the High-level Dialogue Cooperation Mechanism with Indonesia's Coordinator for Cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and visited the ASEAN Secretariat, where he delivered a policy speech.
