Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Analisa Low, ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago to China, on July 25.
Zhao said that over the past 48 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago, a series of pragmatic development cooperation has seen good results with the joint efforts of both sides, promoting the deepening of bilateral relations. He also introduced the China-proposed Global Development Initiative and the Global Development Promotion Center.
In the current context of the intertwined global changes and pandemic, both unseen in a century, China and Trinidad and Tobago need to work together to overcome difficulties, Zhao said, adding that China is willing to work with Trinidad and Tobago to strengthen the anti-pandemic and development cooperation, actively promote the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and push forward development cooperation and relations between the two countries.
Low said that Trinidad and Tobago sincerely thanked the Chinese government for the support and help it has been giving. After the outbreak of COVID-19, the two sides supported each other, and their practical cooperation in the field of development played an important role in promoting the economic and social development of Trinidad and Tobago.
Low said Trinidad and Tobago is willing to work closely with China to further expand cooperation in fields such as food security, health care and human resource development to promote common development between the two countries, in addition to the agreed development cooperation projects.
The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on specific matters of development cooperation.
