In the Gombe State of Nigeria, local hospitals faced grave challenges in infrastructure, water and power supply, a lack of capacity of healthcare providers and supply chain problems, until the arrival of help from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), with support from the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDSSCF) established by the Chinese government.
The GDSSCF and UNICEF worked closely to help reinforce the primary healthcare system in Nigeria and improve the facilities of 10 primary healthcare centers in Kwami LGA of Gombe. They not only improved the facilities, but also supported the functioning of work which has saved the lives of local children and mothers in Gombe.
