Zheng Yuandong, deputy director-general of the First Department of Regional Affairs of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), held a joint working group meeting with Naeem Iqbal Cheema, counsellor of the Embassy of Pakistan in China, on Sept 15, regarding China's flood emergency assistance to Pakistan.
Noting that Pakistan has China's full support in fighting against floods, Zheng said that the CIDCA had worked with related departments and delivered over 8,000 tents, 200 tons of onions, 5,000 blankets and 1,000 cases of compressed biscuits to Pakistan. Another 10 tons of tomatoes and other requested emergency materials will be shipped out by air and sea by the end of September.
Meanwhile, Chinese military and local governments of the Xinjiang Uygur and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous regions, as well as the Red Cross and enterprises, have enthusiastically provided assistance, he said, adding that China is also considering sending expert teams on post-disaster reconstruction and medical health to Pakistan.
Iqbal extended his sincere appreciation for China's generous assistance, especially in donating urgently-needed food like onions and tomatoes. He welcomed the news that China would dispatch expert teams to help in Pakistan's post-disaster reconstruction, which will be a challenging task, and looks forward to China's continuous support and help.
