The China-aided Science Museum will provide a platform for Ethiopia's scientific and technological development and innovation, Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed said when unveiling the project on Oct 4 in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.
Noting that the completion of the construction of the museum in such a short time showed the high efficiency of the contractors, he said that the facility will serve as a place for Ethiopian technology enthusiasts to explore and innovate, and will play a key role in the country's sci-tech and economic development.
The Science Museum is part of the second-phase central plaza bid section of the China-aided Ethiopia Addis Ababa Riverside Green Development Project, which covers 17.85 hectares in Addis Ababa's urban area. Its main facilities include the Science Museum, a spherical cinema, an amusement park and supporting facilities.
On Oct 3, a handover ceremony of the second-phase central plaza bid section of the project was held. At the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Zhao Zhiyuan said that the project is significant in enriching local people's lives and boosting local socioeconomic development. He went on to say that the Chinese embassy will continue to play its bridging role in pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.
The attending Ethiopian representative agreed that the project is a pilot of Ethiopia's green development and construction, as well as a token of cooperation and friendship between China and Ethiopia, noting that the Ethiopian side looks forward to further and deeper cooperation with China.
