A handover ceremony of personal protective supplies provided by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDSSCF) to Kenya via the UN Refugee Agency was held in Nairobi, on Oct 10.
The GDSSCF, an upgraded version of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund established by the Chinese government, delivered 2 million personal protective equipments to Kenya, including 1.82 million medical gloves, 250,000 N95 masks, 10,000 goggles, 1,000 pairs of rubber boots and 500 protective suits.
The UN Refugee Agency expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their strong support to the agency and Kenya in their pandemic response, which will benefit over 500,000 people, ranging from refugees, local residents, to frontline medical and humanitarian workers.
According to local medical staff, the Chinese donation is much needed, as Kenya is about to enter its sixth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
