The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opened on Oct 16. Keenly following the event, including watching the opening ceremony, students of Peking University's Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development (ISSCAD) voiced their congratulations upon the success of the congress and lauded China's great achievements over the years.

ISSCAD student Uy Anna Rasario Malindog, director of the Asian Century Philippines Strategic Studies Institute (ACPSSI) and former consultant of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), said that the congress is a key event that deserves global attention. As the second biggest economy in the world, China's development will heavily influence the future of the world. This gigantic and fast-developing country has injected much new blood to the world, she said, adding that she is looking forward to sharing her observations of China with her colleagues in the Philippines to enhance mutual understanding. She also noted that China's poverty alleviation is an unprecedented and inspiring world feat, given such great progress in a short amount of time.

Chham Chhavirak, a student of ISSCAD and a public service official from Cambodia, said that culture plays an important role in promoting exchanges between China and foreign countries and building friendship between the peoples, and that China has done an excellent job in promoting cultural exchanges. China has made strides in protecting its ecological resources and cultural legacies while maintaining such a rapid development pace. It reflects a cultural confidence, and offers an attractive perspective for people from the rest of the world to learn about China, he said, adding that in the next five years, China will better show the world the charm of Chinese culture, further modernization and  ecological protection.

ISSCAD student Ilkhomjon Muminov, professor from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Uzbekistan, said he enjoys the convenience of daily life and delicious food in China. He lauded China's leadership's priorities in promoting friendship between China and foreign countries, saying his purpose of learning in China is not only to learn about China, but also to help China learn about his own country. The building of a community with a shared future for mankind requires mutual understanding among the peoples, he said, so that friendship, cooperation and common development can be achieved.

ISSCAD student Jarosław marek Linka, senior researcher at the Institute of Organization and Management in Industry in Poland, said he has witnessed great changes in China, having come to study in China 10 years beforehand. He is impressed with China's propositions in high-quality development, sharing those with the rest of the world and becoming a role model for sustainable development. He lauded China's plan for the next five years, which is based on peaceful and green development, saying it is very previous in the present world that is full of profound changes and challenges.

ISSCAD student Lin Zaw Min, founder and executive director of the Myanmar Institute for International Affairs and Policy, marveled at China's orderly and convenient life, low crime rate and beautiful environment given the huge size of the country. He applauded China's dynamic zero-COVID policy, which is efficient and serves the interests of the people. He said the strong and efficient core leadership of China is an important consideration for him to come and study at the ISSCAD.

ISSCAD student May War Moe, an official from the Central Bank of Myanmar, said that his colleague recommended the ISSCAD to him and he was honored to study at one of the best and most inclusive universities in China, where cultural exchanges are abundant. He was very excited after watching the opening ceremony of the 20th CPC National Congress and hopes to utilize what he has learned from China into his work for his own country.
