Luo Zhaohui meets new Nepali ambassador to China

Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, met with Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, Nepal's new ambassador to China, in Beijing on Nov 15.

During the meeting with Shrestha, Luo welcomed his appointment in China. 

Luo said China and Nepal are linked by mountains and rivers. President Xi Jinping paid a historical state visit to Nepal in 2019,  during which the two heads of state elevated the China-Nepal relationship to a strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity, offering strategic guidance for the long-term development of bilateral ties, Luo noted. 

The Chinese side regards Nepal as a priority in neighborhood diplomacy. The two countries have synergized their development strategies, and made remarkable achievements in development cooperation in the areas of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, infrastructure construction, connectivity, earthquake relief, and people's livelihoods, Luo said. 

He added that the agency will make joint efforts with the Nepali side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, promote the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative to bear more fruits in Nepal, speed up the implementation of aid projects, and build a closer China-Nepal community with a shared future. 

Shrestha spoke highly of the traditional friendship between Nepal and China and thanked China for its long-time selfless assistance. In particular, China took the lead in assisting his country with a large number of anti-COVID-19 supplies and vaccines, supporting it in pandemic response and economic recovery, he added. 

The two sides also shared experience in the governance and administration of state affairs, exchanged views on human rights related issues, and agreed to accelerate the China-Nepal cross-border railway construction.

After the meeting, an agreement on economic and technical cooperation between the two governments was inked.
