A meeting on the China-Laos development cooperation mechanism was held via video link on Nov 17, 2022. Deng Boqing, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), and Xaysana Sitthiphone, vice-president of the Laos-China Cooperation Committee, co-chaired the meeting.
The two sides reviewed their work and achievements in bilateral cooperation over the recent years and had in-depth exchanges of opinions on ongoing and potential projects. They agreed to further strengthen communication, proactively implement the consensuses reached by both heads of state, and seek more cooperation in areas such as COVID-19 response, poverty reduction, education, medical care, infrastructure and human resources, with focuses placed on project supervision to ensure integrity and efficiency of the projects and to better benefit people in both countries.
Participants from the CIDCA also briefed the meeting on the recently concluded 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Global Development Initiative (GDI), as well as the CIDCA’s concrete measures in implementing the GDI. Both parties agreed to continue to tap the role of the cooperation mechanism to facilitate positive outcomes of the GDI in Laos, and to bring about continued development of the bilateral ties and the building of the China-Laos community with a shared future.
