On December 14, 2022, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a video meeting with the new Foreign Minister of Malaysia Zambry Abdul Kadir.
Wang Yi said that China and Malaysia have been good friends and good partners for thousands of years, and under the strategic guidance of leaders of the two countries, China-Malaysia relations have maintained the general direction of sound and steady development. No matter what changes have happened in international and domestic situations, the friendship between the two countries and peoples has remained unchanged.
Wang Yi said that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has charted the course for the advancement of the causes of the Party and the country, and China is ready to work with the new Malaysian government to carry forward the friendship, deepen cooperation, and take the opportunity of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023 and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia in 2024 to elevate the China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
Wang Yi stress the need for China and Malaysia to strengthen high-level exchanges and strategic communication, make good use of bilateral mechanisms like the China-Malaysia High-level Committee and strategic consultations, advance cooperation in various fields in a coordinated manner, and work jointly towards the overarching direction of building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future. Both sides need to continue with the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, implement well the East Coast Rail Link and other important projects, promote the upgrading and optimizing of the "Two Countries, Twin Parks" project, foster more new growth areas for cooperation, and jointly enhance core industrial competitiveness. Both sides also need to strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, and work to bring cross-border travel, tourism cooperation and cultural exchanges between the two sides back to normal at an early date.
Wang Yi noted that China supports the ASEAN solidarity and ASEAN centrality in regional architecture, and is ready to work with Malaysia and other ASEAN countries to advance the building of "a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful, and amicable home", promote sustainable recovery and development, and foster synergy to meet global challenges and safeguard regional peace, stability and prosperity together.
Zambry conveyed the best wishes of the new Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Chinese leaders. He said that Malaysia-China relations have a time-honored history with closely connected cultural bonds, and the two sides have respected and trusted each other. Malaysia stands ready to strengthen high-level exchanges with China and work for the upgrading and optimizing of bilateral relations. Malaysia will work with China to further deepen practical cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, investment, infrastructure development, climate change and medicine, and draw on each other's strengths in pursuit of common development. Malaysia looks forwards to strengthening inter-civilizational exchanges and mutual learning with China by enhancing communication and dialogue between the Islamic civilization and Confucian culture to increase mutual understanding between the two peoples. Malaysia is also ready to work with China to advance ASEAN-China cooperation to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
