Agreement inked on China-aided court science center project in Trinidad and Tobago

A signing ceremony for the China-aided court science center project in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago was held at the latter's Ministry of National Security on Dec 19, 2022. Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago Fang Qiu and Minister of National Security of Trinidad and Tobago Fitzgerald Ethelbert Hinds signed the deal on behalf of their respective countries and delivered speeches.

Fang said that China and Trinidad and Tobago have enjoyed a long-term friendship and gained rich yields from their pragmatic cooperation. Since the establishment of their bilateral ties around half a century ago, the two countries have been good friends that share the same interests, good brothers that share weal and woe, and good partners for common development. 

In recent years, the two sides have carried out close cooperation in law enforcement security, which has become a pillar for bilateral relations. This project will be a new landmark project in bilateral cooperation on national security, which will enhance the law enforcement capacity of Trinidad and Tobago, better safeguard the security of its people’s lives and social stability, and inject greater momentum into the high-quality development of the bilateral relations, he said.

Hinds extended his sincere appreciation for the long-term support and assistance of the Chinese government and people. He said that the China-aided court science center project is not only a big event for national security in Trinidad and Tobago, but also a "big step forward" for bilateral cooperation between the two countries. 

The project will greatly improve the country's infrastructure of police law enforcement departments, enhance the technical level of criminal investigation and the ability to crack down on different types of crimes, and better maintain social security and stability, he said, adding that Trinidad and Tobago attaches high importance to advancing bilateral ties with China and is willing to learn from China on cracking down on crimes and maintaining social stability, as well as to continue deepening pragmatic cooperation with China on national security in a bid to benefit people in both countries.
