On January 16, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi had a phone call with French President's Diplomatic Advisor Emmanuel Bonne.
Wangyi noted that the world today is full of turbulence and transformation, thus the sound and steady development of China-France relations is of special significance. Both as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and independent major countries, China and France should strengthen strategic communication and play an important role in responding to global turmoil and changes. China is willing to tighten high-level exchanges and deepen strategic mutual trust with France to open up new prospects for the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the European Union (EU). China is ready to work with France and other EU member states to uphold mutual respect, dialogue and cooperation as well as mutual benefit and win-win results, so as to inject new impetus into the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.
Bonne said that France attaches great importance to its relations with China, and is ready to strengthen high-level exchanges with China, deepen cooperation in innovation, science and technology, among other fields, and jointly draw a blueprint for future development. France opposes the Cold War mentality and bloc politics, and stands ready to play an active role in expanding the EU-China dialogue, upholding multilateralism, promoting global economic recovery and working together to tackle climate change. France understands and supports China's COVID-19 measures, and believes that China will prevail over the latest pandemic wave.
The two sides mainly exchanged ideas on the important agenda for the next bilateral exchanges.
