The inauguration ceremony for the Innovation Training Base of the Global Development Promotion Center (GDPC) was held in Xiamen, Southeast China's Fujian province, on Jan 16, 2023. Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, addressed the ceremony.
Zhao said the inauguration of the training base is a concrete action to promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
Chinese State Councilor Wang Yi attended the inauguration ceremony of the GDPC on Nov 12, 2022, where he concluded China's early achievements in implementing the GDI, and the building of the training base under the framework of the BRICS Partnership on the New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center (BPIC) was one of them.
The BPIC embraces the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, and promotes common technological advancement, economic prosperity and social development, which matches China's international development cooperation philosophy and the mission of implementing the GDI, Zhao said. He expressed his hope that the training base will give full play to local advantages, strengthen the exchange of national governance and development experience, especially among countries from the Group of Friends of the GDI, and improve other developing countries’ ability to implement the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Huang Xiaozhou, vice-mayor of Xiamen, said that the establishment of the training base in Xiamen will promote the BPIC’s expansion into GDI fields and better respond to national strategies. Xiamen will focus on key areas of the GDI, expand cooperation between BRICS countries and other developing countries, work with all parties to develop the base, implement the GDI based on local conditions, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, he added.
