On February 13, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met in Beijing with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

Wang Yi said that China and Thailand are as close as one family. The two peoples have a deep friendship and should be in constant contact with each other like relatives. President Xi Jinping paid a successful visit to Thailand last year and reached important common understandings with Thailand on building a China-Thailand community with a shared future for enhanced stability, prosperity and sustainability, charting the way forward and opening up broad prospects for future development of bilateral relations. China stands ready to work with Thailand to well implement the outcomes of the visit, deepen strategic communication, strengthen strategic cooperation, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the two countries and uphold regional peace and stability.

Wang Yi expounded on the prominent features of Chinese modernization and new opportunities it brings to all the countries, and emphasized that China-Thailand cooperation has not only boosted their respective development but also brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. Recently China chose Thailand as one of the first pilot countries for resuming Chinese group tours, and the Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health greeted Chinese tourists at the airport, which is a vivid illustration of China-Thailand friendship. As China's post-pandemic recovery accelerates, its advantages as the world's biggest market will be fully unleashed, its domestic demand will be further expanded, personnel exchanges between China and Thailand will be more active, and practical cooperation will yield more outcomes.

Don said that the modernization of China's huge population will create a miracle of human development, and encourage and inspire Thailand and other small and medium-sized countries to speed up their own development process. The APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting last year would not have been so successful without China's strong support and close cooperation, and it is also a testament to the deepening friendship between the two countries. Don thanked China for always promptly responding to Thailand's needs and providing the country with urgently needed help. Don said that he looks forward to contributing more to the development of Thailand-China relations, and will take concrete actions to carry forward the close ties between the two countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, among others. Wang Yi emphasized that conflicts, sanctions and pressure are not solutions, and China will continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace talks and political settlement.
