On February 18, 2023 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Tánaiste ( Deputy Prime Minister), Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence of Ireland Micheál Martin on the margins of the 59th Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi said that China-Ireland relations have maintained a sound momentum of development. China has fully overcome the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and its robust economic recovery will bring more opportunities to Ireland and other countries. China is ready to work with Ireland to attach importance to and support each other's major concerns, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and resume exchanges in various fields. Hope that Ireland will adhere to openness and inclusiveness, and treat the Chinese enterprises in a fair, just and non-discriminatory manner. Facing up to the changes and turmoil in the world, China and Ireland should strengthen communication and cooperation, support multilateralism and against unilateral acts, and join hands to safeguard world peace and stability.
Martin said that China is an important cooperative partner of Ireland. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have maintained friendly exchanges and witnessed the rapid development of cooperation in various fields, especially economic and trade relations. Ireland welcomes China's optimization and adjustment of epidemic response measures, and looks forward to strengthening exchanges with China at all levels to strive for greater development of bilateral relations. Ireland will continue its firm stand on the one-China policy.
The two sides also exchanged views on Ukraine and other issues.
