On February 19, 2023 local time, Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán Viktor met in Budapest with Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi.

Wang Yi conveyed warm greetings of Chinese leaders to Orbán. He once again congratulated Mr. Prime Minister on leading the Federation of Young Democrats-Hungarian Civic Alliance (FIDESZ) to win the Parliamentarian election and being re-elected as prime minister. Though China and Hungary are in different sizes, we have always enjoyed mutual respect, mutual understanding and mutual trust. Our bilateral relationship has set an example for international exchanges. China is ready to work with Hungary to promote friendly exchanges across the board, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and strive for greater democracy in international relations and a multi-polar world. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative initiated by President Xi Jinping, and both sides should continue to strengthen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. China appreciates Hungary for supporting the development of China-EU relations in an active manner. It is in the interests of the Chinese and Hungarian people and also serves the fundamental and long-term interests of Europe.

Orbán asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to Chinese leaders, and congratulated on the success of the 20th CPC National Congress and congratulated President Xi Jinping on his re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. Orbán said that Hungary is firmly committed to the friendly China policy, and attaches great importance to cooperation with China in all fields. Hungary thanked China for providing long-term and selfless assistance, and Chinese vaccines have saved the lives of many people. Hungary will continue its relentless efforts to promote the development of EU-China relations.

The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on the Ukraine issue, and believed that the more complicated the situation is, the more restrained and calm all parties should remain, so as to make a right choice conforming to the norms governing international relations and the long-term interests of Europe, and realize an early peace in Europe.
