Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with visiting Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Kao Kim Hourn on March 27, 2023.
Luo congratulated Kao on taking office as ASEAN secretary-general. Noting that the ASEAN is an important partner of China, Luo said that fruitful results have been yielded through bilateral development and cooperation. He pledged to continue to support ASEAN in playing its coordinative role, deepen pragmatic cooperation, promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and foster a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future in a more prosperous world.
Kao extended appreciation to the Chinese government for its strong support for ASEAN, noting that this year marks the 20th anniversary of China's accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. Over the past years, China and ASEAN member states have deepened cooperation and political mutual trust. He said that ASEAN supports the GDI and expects China's expanded investment in and economic and trade cooperation with ASEAN. He also expressed support for the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and vowed to promote the sustainable development of the region.
Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Hou Yanqi, Director-General of the First Department of Regional Affairs of the CIDCA Bai Bin, Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Xu Wei, and officials from China's Foreign Ministry and the ASEAN Secretariat attended the meeting.
