A delegation led by Deng Boqing, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), visited the Maldives from April 1 to 3.
Deng paid a courtesy call on Maldives' Vice-President Faisal Naseem, and held meetings with the country's Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, with whom he had in-depth discussions on such topics as bilateral relations, promoting the Belt and Road development and implementing the Global Development Initiative, as well as on deepening bilateral development cooperation.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on a three-year bilateral cooperation plan, as well as cooperation documents on a series of projects.
During the trip, Deng also conducted field surveys to some China-aided projects, including the hospital project on Ungoofaaru Island, the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and the National Museum.
Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin, Economic and Commercial Counsellor Wang Qihui, and Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's First Department of Regional Affairs Zheng Yuandong attended the above events.
