Mexico ready to strengthen multi-field dialogue with China

CIDCA| Updated: 2023-04-15

Mexico attaches great importance to China's international status and global influence and is willing to strengthen exchanges and dialogue with China in various fields, said Laura Elena Carrillo Cubillas, executive director of the Mexican Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AMEXCID).

She made those remarks during a meeting with Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), in Mexico City on April 13.

Carrillo spoke highly of the  Mexico - China comprehensive strategic partnership, and expressed willingness to strengthen communication in such fields as agriculture, education, food security and climate change.

Luo noted that the world is entering a phase of turbulence and reformation, under which circumstance China has proposed a series of concepts such as building a community with a shared future for mankind, high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and the Global Development Initiative (GDI), offering Chinese solutions to achieve global development and stability. Common development needs common action. China and Mexico, both as major developing countries and emerging economies, share common or similar interests in several international and regional issues. Therefore the two countries are both capable and obligated to strengthen international development cooperation, carry out policy dialogue, and deepen pragmatic cooperation, Luo said.

The two sides acknowledged the broad prospects of international development cooperation under the GDI framework, and reached consensus on establishing a Juncao technology demonstration center in Mexico City. In-depth discussions were held in details of the project such as the address of the center and ways of cooperation. Both sides agreed that this project, as China's first "small yet smart" assistance project in Mexico, has great significance in expanding cooperation and benefits in Latin America.

The two sides signed a bilateral cooperation document on training programs on Juncao technology and renewable energy planning and development.

Chinese Ambassador to Mexico Zhang Run also attended the meeting.
