On April 18, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang held talks with Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo Bonasso in Beijing.
Qin Gang said that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay. China-Uruguay relations have entered a stage of mature and stable development, setting a good example of win-win cooperation between countries of different sizes and national conditions. The two sides should further consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, increase people-to-people and cultural exchanges, step up coordination on multilateral affairs, continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns, promote China-Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) cooperation, and take China-Uruguay strategic partnership to a new level.
Francisco Bustillo Bonasso said that Uruguay-China relations have traveled a journey of 35 years. The two countries, though oceans apart, have always worked hand in hand and achieved fruitful results in bilateral relations. Uruguay values its relations with China and looks forward to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the economy, trade and other fields. Uruguay attaches great importance to the three initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and believes that they are an important contribution to world peace and human development. Uruguay is ready to work with China to uphold multilateralism, promote dialogue among civilizations, and advance world peace and prosperity on the basis of mutual understanding and mutual respect. Uruguay will continue to play an active role in promoting the development of LAC-China relations.
