China holds GDI briefing at UN headquarters

On April 19 local time, the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), together with China's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and related UN agencies, hosted a briefing on the promotion of the China-proposed Global Development Initiative (GDI) at the UN headquarters in New York. Chairman of the CIDCA Luo Zhaohui attended the event and delivered a keynote speech.

Luo said that China proposed a series of visions such as the community with a shared future for mankind, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the GDI, which contribute Chinese wisdom and strength to the rejuvenation of global development. China’s path to modernization and dedication to high-quality development and high-level opening-up provide beneficial experiences as well as feasible and replicable practices to achieve the sustainable development goals, he noted.

Luo gave a detailed introduction of China's progress in implementing the GDI and the BRI, as well as contributions to achieving the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He called for common action to achieve the SDGs and realize the GDI by reinforcing consensus and the UN's leadership, strengthening coordination, and promoting North-South cooperation. China will continue in its efforts and strive to contribute more to the realization of the SDGs and GDI, Luo said.

At the event, the CIDCA released a series of documents including the Non-paper of the GDI Project Pool and the Financing Non-paper of the GDI Project Pool.

Permanent Representative of China to the UN Zhang Jun, the UN Resident Coordinator in China Siddharth Chaterjee, and Assistant Secretary-General of the UN's Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) Maria-Francesca Spatolisano spoke highly of China's leading role and responsibility as a major country in promoting the realization of the SDGs in their remarks. Over 200 people, including Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Khurelbaatar, ministerial-level officials from countries including Cuba and Russia, and representatives of the GDI Group of Friends member countries to the UN, attended the event.
