The opening ceremony of a parliamentarians workshop for African English-speaking countries was held in Beijing on April 19, 2023. Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), attended and addressed the event.
In his speech, Zhao noted that the Communist Party of China (CPC) has united and led the Chinese people to explore a Chinese path to modernization, making significant contributions to theoretical and practical innovations for the modernization of human society. Chinese experiences offer new hope and options to other developing countries, and China is willing to share its experience of state governance with other developing countries, he said. As an agency responsible for China’s foreign assistance and international development cooperation, the CIDCA attaches great importance to human resource development cooperation and strives to provide platforms for exchanges and mutual learning in that regard.
He emphasized that China is not only an advocate, but also a practitioner of international development cooperation. The CIDCA aims to implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI), align with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and adopts the approach of "teaching others how to fish" in helping other developing countries to enhance their capacity for self-reliant development, he said, pledging that the CIDCA will continue to increase investment in human resource development in Africa, and actively facilitate cooperation and exchanges between the National People's Congress of China and parliaments of African countries.
China's foreign assistance and international development cooperation will firmly implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress, practice the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, build the Belt and Road to a high standard, implement the GDI, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, in a bid to contribute to the building of a better future for global development, Zhao said.
