On April 25, 2023, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council sent a congratulatory letter to the opening ceremony of the ASEAN-China Year of Agricultural Development and Food Security Cooperation.
Li Qiang said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future and the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. Agriculture and food security are the bases for peace, stability, development and prosperity, and they are also key areas of cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The success of the ASEAN-China Year of Agricultural Development and Food Security Cooperation is of great significance. Li expressed the hope that the two sides will further strengthen policy communication, exchanges and cooperation, make agricultural development more resilient and sustainable, better ensure food security, and jointly contribute East Asian wisdom and set an example for East Asia in global food and agriculture governance.
Li Qiang pointed out that China and ASEAN are good neighbors, good friends and good partners. China is ready to work with ASEAN countries to take the Year of Agricultural Development and Food Security Cooperation as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in key areas such as green agricultural development, poverty reduction and rural revitalization, smart agriculture and digital countryside, build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home together, work for solid and substantive progress in the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, and help achieve the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
