Tang Wenhong, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with a political leaders delegation of Pacific island countries led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice of Tonga Samiu Kuita Vaipulu on April 27, 2023.
Members of the delegation were from Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, the Cook Islands, Tonga and Kiribati.
Tang said that China and Pacific island countries enjoy a long history of friendship. In recent years, both sides have conducted mutually beneficial cooperation based on the principles of sincerity, real results, affinity, and good faith, and their bilateral relationship has made great strides, bringing tangible benefits to the people of the region and setting an example for South-South cooperation.
Fruitful results have been yielded in pragmatic cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, climate response, agriculture, forestry, husbandry and fishery, culture and education, and capacity building, Tang said, adding that China is ready to share its development philosophy of Chinese modernization, work jointly to promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in a bid to bring tangible benefits to the people of the island countries.
Delegation members extended their appreciation to the Chinese government for its long-term assistance in various areas, which has yielded visible results. They recognize China's people-centered development approach, and are willing to learn from China's experience in modernized development, and to jointly promote greater progress in cooperation with China.
