On the morning of May 18, 2023, President Xi Jinping held talks in Xi'an with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan who is in China for the China-Central Asia Summit and a state visit.
President Xi Jinping pointed out that since China and Tajikistan established diplomatic relations, the bilateral relationship has achieve leapfrog development from one of good-neighborliness to a strategic partnership and then to a comprehensive strategic partnership. China-Tajikistan relations enjoy deep historical roots, a solid political foundation, rich substantive cooperation and extensive public support. China is ready to work with Tajikistan under the new circumstances to enhance cooperation across the board, and build a China-Tajikistan community with a shared future featuring everlasting friendship, solidarity, mutual support and mutual benefit.
Xi Jinping stressed that the two sides need to deepen all-round strategic cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and a high degree of mutual trust, firmly support each other on issues concerning their respective core interests such as sovereignty, independence, security and territorial integrity, and be each other’s strategic partners of mutual trust. The two sides need to enhance synergy between their development strategies, advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and deepen cooperation in economy and trade, connectivity, agriculture, major projects and other fields. China is ready to import more quality agricultural products from Tajikistan. The two sides also need to enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, run the Luban Workshop well, step up cooperation in education and media, and tell the China-Tajikistan friendship stories well, to cement public and social support for bilateral relations. China is also ready to strengthen cooperation with Tajikistan on law enforcement and security to safeguard the common security of the two countries and the region, promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, safeguard the common interests of the vast developing countries, and advance the building of a human community with a shared future. Xi Jinping expressed his confidence that with the concerted efforts of all parties, the China-Central Asia Summit will surely be one with rich substance and fruitful outcomes, and open a new era of China-Central Asia cooperation.
Emomali Rahmon said Tajikistan-China relations are built on a high degree of mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual support. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between Tajikistan and China, and the bilateral relationship has become a primary example of good-neighborly friendship and sincere cooperation between countries. Tajikistan will unswervingly abide by the one-China policy, and stay firmly committed to developing the Tajikistan-China strategic partnership and building a Tajikistan-China community with a shared future. This conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples. Tajikistan supports the Global Security Initiative, the Global Development Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by China, and stands ready to foster greater synergy between Tajikistan's national development strategies and the Belt and Road Initiative, learn from China's development experience, and strengthen bilateral cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, production capacity, agriculture, transportation, green economy and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Tajikistan is ready to work with China to make the first China-Central Asia Summit a success and build up China-Central Asia cooperation mechanisms.
After the talks, the two heads of state signed the Joint Statement between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Tajikistan, and jointly witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents in such areas as economy and trade, connectivity, science and technology, and sub-national exchanges.
Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and Qin Gang, among others, were present at the above events.
