Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with visiting Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen on May 25, 2023.
Noting that Ethiopia is a major African country with a large influence, Luo said that the two countries and their peoples enjoy a long tradition of friendship and that their bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results in recent years. China is ready to work with Ethiopia to jointly implement the important consensus reached between the two heads of state, expand cooperation under the Global Development Initiative (GDI) framework, and strive for more benefits for the people of both countries, he said.
Demeke said that China is Ethiopia's most reliable friend and thanked China for its long-term support for the country's socioeconomic development. He pledged full support for and participation in the GDI, and expressed willingness to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China for common development.
The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation projects. The State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia Birtukhan Ayano, Ethiopian Ambassador to China Tefera Derbew, Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin, and Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Xu Wei also attended the meeting.
