The first meeting of the China-Laos Working Mechanism for Promoting the Implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) was held in Beijing on May 29, 2023. Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), and Khamjane Vongphosy, minister of planning and investment of Laos, co-hosted the meeting.
Noting that China and Laos are friendly socialist neighbors and an unbreakable community with a shared future, Luo said that the two countries have achieved solid political mutual trust, deepened pragmatic cooperation and fruitful development results in recent years. China is ready to work with Laos to jointly implement the key consensuses reached between the two heads of state; deepen cooperation in such areas as poverty reduction, medical care and education under the framework of the GDI, in order to further benefit the people of both countries; and propel the implementation of the GDI and the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through concrete action, he said.
Khamjane, also president of the Laos-China Cooperation Committee, extended his appreciation to China for its long-term selfless assistance to the socioeconomic development of his country. He spoke highly of their bilateral cooperation achievements, and pledged full support for and participation in the GDI. Laos is willing to further strengthen cooperation for the continuous advancement of bilateral ties and to jointly build the China-Laos community with a shared future, he said.
The two sides exchanged views on cooperation details and signed related cooperation agreements. Vice-President of the Laos-China Cooperation Committee Saysana Sitthiphone and Vice-Chairman of the CIDCA Deng Boqing also attended the meeting.
