On June 19, 2023, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) Svenja Schulze, as part of preparations for the seventh round of China-Germany inter-governmental consultation to be co-chaired by the Chinese premier and German chancellor.
Both sides acknowledged the progress in international development cooperation since the signing of a memorandum of understanding of cooperation between the CIDCA and the BMZ in 2021, which innovated cooperation models and enriched bilateral relations. With the international environment becoming more complex, the development agenda floundering and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development suffering setbacks, both sides agreed to build consensus on global development, promote international development cooperation, hold regular forums on sustainable development, and to carry out trilateral cooperation in such areas as poverty reduction, climate change response and agriculture.
After the meeting, Luo and Schulze signed a three-year action plan for strengthening international development cooperation.
Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Du Wei and Director General for Asia, South-Eastern and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Latin America of the BMZ Christine Toetzke also attended the meeting.
