CIDCA vice-chairman meets with South African minister of electricity

Zhong Haidong, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Minister of Electricity of South Africa Kgosientsho Ramokgopa on June 19, 2023.

Zhong noted that China and South Africa, as major developing countries, enjoy a special brotherhood friendship, and the recent phone conversation between the two heads of state pointed the direction for further cooperation between the two countries. China is willing to jointly implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI), deepen cooperation and promote the continuous development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, he said.

Ramokgopa thanked China for its long-term support for the socioeconomic development of South Africa, and pledged to strengthen cooperation in energy sector under the South-South cooperation framework, and to fully support and actively participate in the GDI in a bid to benefit the people of both countries.

The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation matters.

Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Zhang Lihua, South African Ambassador to China Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele, and Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure of South Africa Bernice Swarts also attended the meeting.
