Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), held talks with Laureano Ortega Murillo, presidential adviser of Nicaragua and coordinator for cooperation with China, on July 9, 2023. Laureano was on a visit to China and attending the first high-level conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development. Nicaraguan Finance Minister Ivan Adolfo Acosta Montalvan and Ambassador to China Michael Campbell, as well as Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin, also attended the meeting.
Luo said that since the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Nicaragua, the two sides, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, have maintained close collaboration and carried out in-depth practical cooperation in various fields, with fruitful results achieved in development in particular. China is willing to work with Nicaragua to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) in Nicaragua so that the fruits of development cooperation can better benefit the two countries and their people.
Laureano thanked China for its valuable support and assistance for Nicaragua's economic and social development. He spoke highly of the bilateral relations and said that Nicaragua firmly adheres to the one-China principle, highly recognizes and actively supports the China-proposed GDI, and looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with China so as to promote the implementation of the GDI for the benefit of the two peoples.
The two sides also carried out an in-depth exchange of views on specific development cooperation projects and signed relevant development cooperation agreements.
