CIDCA chairman meets with Burundian foreign minister

Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi Albert Shingiro, who came to China to attend the first high-level conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, on July 9, 2023. 

Luo welcomed the minister's participation in the conference. He said that China and Burundi enjoy a profound traditional friendship, and Burundi is an "all-weather" friend as well as an "all-round" partner of China. Under the guidance of the two heads of state, China-Burundi relations have maintained high-level development and pragmatic cooperation continues to advance in various areas, he said. China is willing to work together with Burundi to implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and share development cooperation opportunities so as to yield more cooperation results and promote China-Burundi relations to a new height, he added. 

Shingiro thanked China for its long-standing assistance and support to his country and acknowledged the significant achievements made in cooperation between the two countries in such fields as infrastructure, agriculture, health and education. 

He said that Burundi will actively support and participate in the GDI, learn from China's development experience and deepen pragmatic cooperation with China so as to achieve common development. 

The two sides also held an in-depth exchange of views on specific issues related to development cooperation. 

Burundian ambassador to China Telesphore Irambona and Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin also attended the meeting.
