Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with a delegation led by Ahsan Iqbal, minister of planning, development and special initiatives of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who came to China to attend the first high-level conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, on July 10, 2023.
Luo thanked Iqbal for attending the conference, as well as Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for his video message. He said that the conference, themed on "Global Development Initiative: Echo the Development Agenda and Call for Global Action", is China's reiteration of its promise and commitment to the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which will promote the international community to focus again on development issues. China is willing to enhance communication with Pakistan, actively carry out communication on state governance and pragmatic cooperation under the framework of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), in a bid to benefit the two countries and their people, he noted.
Iqbal congratulated on the successful holding of the conference, and thanked China for its long-term strong support and selfless assistance to Pakistan's socioeconomic development. He said that Pakistan is willing to continue to support and participate in the GDI, and to cooperate with China in post-disaster reconstruction, infrastructure, trade and investment, as well as people's livelihoods, so as to jointly promote the building of a closer community with a shared future for China and Pakistan.
The two sides also held in-depth discussions on relevant cooperation projects. Deng Boqing, vice-chairman of the CIDCA, Director-General of the CIDCA's First Department of Regional Affairs Liu Junfeng, and Pakistan's Chief Economist Nadeem Javaid attended the meeting.
