CIDCA chairman meets with finance minister of Tanzania

Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Tanzanian Minister of Finance Mwigulu Nchemba on Aug 17, 2023, upon the latter's invitation, to exchange views on the promotion of bilateral cooperation.

Noting that Tanzania is a major African country, Luo said that China has always regarded it as an important cooperation partner. The two heads of state announced last November the decision to elevate their bilateral ties into a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, and reached important consensus on deepening bilateral pragmatic cooperation. 

Luo said that the two sides should work together to implement the consensus, actively explore new ways of cooperation under the Global Development Initiative (GDI) framework, build the Belt and Road to a high standard, and strengthen human resources development cooperation and exchanges in state governance experiences, in a bid to set a role model of South-South cooperation. 

Saying that China is Tanzania's old friend and good brother, Nchemba thanked the Chinese government and people for their long-term support to his country's socioeconomic development and infrastructure construction. Tanzania actively supports and participates in the GDI, and is looking forward to deepening cooperation with China in such areas as infrastructure, medical care, education and the blue economy, in a bid to promote the continuous development of the bilateral ties, he said. 

The two sides held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation matters. Tanzanian Ambassador to China Mbelwa Kairuki, Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin, and Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Xu Wei also attended the meeting.
