Tang Wenhong, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Hyginus 'Gene' Leon on Aug 21, 2023, to exchange views on the promotion of bilateral cooperation.
Tang noted that China has supported the socioeconomic development and improvement of people's livelihoods in Caribbean countries over the past 50 years, and has yielded fruitful results in development cooperation fields, setting a good example of cooperation featuring mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and common development. China supports the Caribbean region's integration efforts and actively seeks friendly relations with organizations in the region, he said, adding that China is ready to establish cooperation mechanisms with the CDB and Caribbean countries under the Global Development Initiative framework, explore development cooperation, and continuously deepen comprehensive partnerships with Caribbean countries.
Noting that China is an extra-regional member of the CDB, Leon thanked China for its support for the integration of the Caribbean region. He pledged to strengthen communication with the CIDCA, and actively explore ways of cooperation in order to reap cooperation fruits as soon as possible.
The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation matters. Operations Officer of Regional Cooperation and Integration of the CDB Ashaki Goodwin, Chief Representative of the Liaison Office of the People's Bank of China to the Caribbean region Zhao Zhihao, and Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Cai Fang also attended the meeting.
