Tang Wenhong, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Kenya's Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Abraham Korir SingOei and Principal Secretary of National Treasury Chris Kiptoo on Aug 30, 2023.
Tang acknowledged the traditional friendship between China and Kenya. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 60 years ago, the two countries have always treated each other as equals, supported each other and achieved positive outcomes in development cooperation.
China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Kenya, jointly build the Belt and Road to a high standard, properly maintain the outcomes of bilateral cooperation, actively implement the important initiatives of the recently-concluded China-Africa Leaders' Dialogue in Johannesburg, further expand cooperation under the framework of the Global Development Initiative, set a good example of South-South cooperation, and promote the continuous development of the two nations’ comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, he said.
SingOei and Kiptoo extended their appreciation to the Chinese government for its longer-term support for the socioeconomic development and improvement of people's livelihoods in their country. As they introduced, the Kenyan government is committed to economic transformation and has introduced a series of policies and regulations to promote economic development and improve the business environment. Their country looks forward to learning from China's successful development experiences and expanding cooperation with China in various fields, they said. They also welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest in Kenya, and expressed hope to receive greater support from China.
The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation matters. Bai Bin, director-general of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs, also attended the meeting.
