On the morning of September 10, 2023 local time, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met with President of the European Council Charles Michel on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

Li Qiang said that as China and Europe are two major forces, markets, and civilizations in the world, China-Europe relations bear on the global stability and the prosperity of the Eurasian continent. Lying at the opposite ends of Eurasia, there is no geopolitical conflict between China and Europe, let alone a fundamental conflict of interests. China hopes to see a prosperous and stable Europe and stands ready to work with the European side to stay committed to their partnership, further strengthen dialogue and exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and properly handle sensitive issues, to promote the sustained, sound, and stable development of China-Europe relations and inject more stability and positive energy to today's world fraught with transformation and upheaval.

Li Qiang noted that the two sides should strengthen strategic guidance. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, and he looks forward to co-chairing the new round of the China-EU Summit with Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. China's development is an opportunity rather than a risk for Europe. Both sides should stay committed to opening-up and cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win results. No matter at present or in the future, China is and will remain a trustworthy friend and partner of Europe. China is ready to work with Europe to step up dialogue and negotiation and explore the establishment of relevant mechanisms, to promote the reliability and stability of China-Europe economic and trade relations. More European enterprises are welcome to invest and do business in China.

Charles Michel said that the EU is willing to be China's sincere, credible, and constructive friend and partner. A prosperous China is good for the EU and the rest of the world, and the EU has no intention to curb China's development. The EU adheres to the one-China principle and stands ready to work with China to ensure the success of the EU-China Summit, deepen dialogue and cooperation in various fields, and jointly address climate change, public health, security and stability, and other global challenges.
