On Sept 14, 2023, Tang Wenhong, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Elias Wohengu, secretary-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea (PNG), to exchange views on bilateral development cooperation.
Tang said that PNG, as an important member of the Pacific Ocean island countries, is a friendly cooperation partner of China and the two countries have achieved positive outcomes in development cooperation over the years. China is willing to continue to strengthen coordination with PNG to jointly implement the key consensus reached between the two heads of state, advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and expand cooperation under the Global Development Initiative (GDI) framework, in a bid to promote the continuous development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, he said.
Wohengu extended his appreciation to China for its long-term support to his country's socioeconomic development and the improvement of people's livelihoods, and pledged close cooperation with China in aligning PNG's Medium Term Development Plan and the Vision 2050 with China’s Belt and Road Imitative and GDI.
The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation matters. Cai Fang, deputy director-general of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs, also attended the meeting.
