Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with UN Under-Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Xu Haoliang at the UN headquarters in New York on Sept 19, 2023, on the sidelines of the High Level Meeting on Global Development Initiative Cooperation Outcomes.
Zhao congratulated Xu on his assumption of the new office and said that the CIDCA has yielded positive outcomes in its pragmatic cooperation with the UNDP since the agency's establishment. He raised his hope that Xu's assumption of office will create a favorable opportunity for the two sides to deepen cooperation and jointly set a model for cooperation between China and international organizations. He said he expects more planned and long-term cooperation with the UNDP under the frameworks of the Global Development Initiative and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, enhancing the guiding role and influence of projects, and better benefiting the well-being of people in developing countries.
Xu said that he was impressed by the progress of the China-proposed GDI, which was presented at the high-level meeting held earlier that day at the UN headquarters. The UN looks forward to further deepening practical cooperation with China, jointly implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the GDI, and making positive contributions to promoting global development to a new stage of equal, coordinated and inclusive development, he said.
Head of the Global Development Promotion Center under the CIDCA Tang Ying, and Deputy Director-General of the Center for International Knowledge on Development Zhou Taidong also attended the meeting.
