On Sept 27, 2023, a closing ceremony of the training program on combating desertification in Mongolia, organized by the Chinese government, was held at the Gansu Desert Control Research Institute. Thirty officials and technicians from Mongolian Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism and its forestry department attended the event. Meng Ran, deputy director-general of the Department of International Cooperation of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, attended and addressed the event.
Meng extended her congratulations on the success of the training course. She said that China and Mongolia are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers, and the two heads of state recently reached consensus on Mongolia's "One Billion Trees" initiative. As part of efforts to implement this initiative, China decided to host 10 training sessions on desertification control for the Mongolian side, starting with the just-concluded session, as he introduced. China is willing to continue to share with Mongolia its ideas and practices on desertification prevention and control under the Global Development Initiative framework, help safeguard ecological security, promote green development, and jointly advance global environmental governance, she said, adding that the cooperation also aims to inject new momentum into the China-Mongolia comprehensive strategic partnership, in order to benefit the people in both countries and serve the prosperity and development of the region.
A representative of the trainees thanked the Chinese government for holding this program, saying that the program is significant in enhancing Mongolia's capacity to prevent and control desertification and contributing to global desertification control, and that they look forward to more such training programs where they can learn from China's experience and practices in the field of ecological and environmental protection.
