On Oct 9, 2023, a distribution ceremony of emergency humanitarian assistance supplies to Sudan from the Chinese government was held in Port Sudan, during which 939 tons of rice from China started to be shipped to 18 states throughout Sudan. Charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sudan Zhang Xianghua, Commercial Counselor Guo Hu, and Sudan's Minister of Culture and Information Graham Abdel Qader attended the ceremony.
Zhang affirmed the profound traditional friendship between China and Sudan and that China has always been a firm supporter of Sudan's peace and development. Since the outbreak of armed conflict in Sudan, the Chinese government has paid close attention to the humanitarian situation in Sudan and provided emergency humanitarian assistance worth 10 million yuan ($1.37 million), including 939 tons of rice, medical examination gloves, gauze bandages, disposable surgical gowns and non-woven medical hats, all of which have been delivered to the Sudanese side, and are expected to play an important role in alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, he said. He added that as a good friend and partner to Sudan, China sincerely hopes that the situation in Sudan will cool down as soon as possible and the country will gradually restore stability, towards which China is ready to work with the international community to provide aid.
Qader affirmed the enduring friendship between China and Sudan and said that the Sudanese government and people appreciate the invaluable humanitarian support from China. He pledged that the Sudanese government will distribute the supplies to every state to make sure all people will benefit from them. Sudan is looking forward to more support from the international community and donor countries to ease the humanitarian plight in the country, he added.
