On Oct 12, 2023, the handover ceremony of the China-aided railway vocational and technical institute project was held in Vientiane, Laos. President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith attended the ceremony. Charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Laos Wang Chang handed over the project on behalf of the Chinese government.
Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Wang said that Laos has become one of the most important partners in the building of the Belt and Road. The presence of President Thongloun at the handover ceremony shows that the Laotian government attaches great importance to China-Laos cooperation, he said, expressing his belief that the project will become a new starting point for China-Laos railway cooperation and the development of railway undertakings in Laos. China is ready to work with Laos to implement the strategic consensus reached between the two heads of state, discuss cooperation, and seek common development and common prosperity, in a bid to bring more benefits to the people of both countries, he added.
After the ceremony, Thongloun conducted a field inspection of the project and wrote an inscription for it.
