Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Xu Haoliang, under-secretary-general of the United Nations and associate administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on Oct 17, 2023. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation.
Luo congratulated Xu on his assumption of the office and welcomed his attendance to the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. He said that the CIDCA and the UNDP share the same goals and have achieved fruitful results through close cooperation. The CIDCA is willing to deepen cooperation with the UNDP in such areas as disaster prevention and reduction, climate change response, green energy and healthcare, to jointly promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the realization of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and better benefit the people of developing countries, he added.
Xu said that the UN welcomes the Belt and Road Initiative and the GDI. The China-proposed initiatives are in sync with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and the UNDP is a natural partner of the CIDCA, he said, adding that the UNDP is willing to strengthen communication and scale up cooperation with the CIDCA in a bid to contribute more to human development.
After the meeting, the two sides witnessed the signing of an agreement on the project to provide firefighting equipment to Mongolia to enhance its forest firefighting capacity, which is funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund.
The UNDP Resident Representative in China Beate Trankmann, Vice-Chairman of the CIDCA Zhao Fengtao, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation Xu Wei, and Director-General of the First Department of Regional Affairs Liu Junfeng also attended the meeting.
